Panama’s National Energy Secretariat to Host ECPA Regional Technical Workshop on Energy Concerns for an Expanding Urban Infrastructure

On February 26, 2014, Panama City will host a regional technical workshop under the auspices of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA). The ECPA Clearinghouse, led by the OAS Department of Sustainable Development, is supporting Panama’s National Energy Secretariat in the organization of this activity which will address various aspects of the challenges experienced in expanding urban energy infrastructures. International and local experts will assess government actions aimed at enhancing energy performance and ensuring supply to residential, commercial, industrial and public transport sectors. During the workshop, representatives from the Latin America Development Bank (CAF), the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will partake in a roundtable discussion on energy sustainability and urban transport financing. Financial and technical support alternatives offered by these multilateral agencies to countries looking forward to develop and adapt their infrastructures to meet new energy and environmental needs will be discussed during this session.

Regional representatives from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua will attend this regional event. The Government of Panama will take this opportunity to showcase its progress in public transport and the inclusion of renewable energy into its national energy mix.
