OAS Hosts the Second Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas Public Discussion Forum

Thursday, April 17, 2014

This forum provided a space for dialogue on sustainable energy solutions and climate change mitigation. The Ambassadors of Peru and France to the Organization of American States (OAS) participated as keynote speakers and highlighted the relevant role of the OAS in enabling positive dialogue towards the upcoming conferences of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that will be hosted by their respective countries. Cletus I. Springer, Director of the OAS Department of Sustainable Development, emphasized the importance of a frank debate to effectively drive energy and climate actions taking place at national and regional levels. The potential for future partnerships and collaboration among governments, civil society and the private sector under the auspices of ECPA was also discussed based on share first-hand knowledge of ongoing projects supported by the OAS and engagement strategies.

This is the second in a series of four fora hosted by the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS General Secretariat, in its ECPA Clearinghouse capacity. The purpose of these dialogues is to foster greater energy and climate dialogue and collaboration among OAS member states and the diplomatic community in Washington. The fora enabled the participation of diverse audiences in an exchange of best practices and lessons learned on energy and climate.
