From May 22-23 Uruguay served as the regional headquarters for the technical exchange mission to strengthen the energy efficiency of the residential sector. For healthy, safe and energy efficient homes in the Americas.

This technical exchange mission is part of the activities of ECPA’s Energy Efficiency Working Group chaired by the Government of Mexico as part of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA). This working group is executed by the Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Representatives of national and international agencies and experts from several countries from the Americas participated in this technical exchange mission, which provided sharing on various experiences that have been developed throughout the continent on this issue.

It should be noted that, as set out in the Social Pillar from the Uruguay 2030 Energy Policy, for the National Energy Office is essential to promote the discussion around energy solutions to address the situation of households in terms of socio-economic vulnerability and/or territorial area in which it is essential to incorporate habits of efficient use of energy in order to create conditions to regulate and secure access to services in a sustainable manner over time.

This activity allowed participants to learn from the experience of Argentina, Chile, the U.S. and Peru, and showcase what has been developing in Uruguay.

In this regard, the Uruguayan Canasta Services Program, which aims to improve the quality of life of Uruguayan families in situations of higher socio- economic vulnerability, from a social integration perspective.
