Webinar: Energy reform in Mexico – On Paradigm shifts, game changers and unleashing Aztec Tigers

Date: Tuesday, December 17, 2013
Time: 1pm San Diego time (3pm Mexico/4pm New York/GMT – 8 hours)

Energy Reform in MexicoOn December 12, Mexico’s Congress passed legislation aimed at a major overhaul of the nation’s energy sector. Join us for a virtual panel to discuss what these reforms mean for the nation’s oil and gas and power sectors with Luis Miguel Labardini (Marcos y Asociados), Marcelo Mereles (EnergeA) and John Padilla (IPD Latin America).

Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto’s energy reform agenda dominated Mexican headlines in 2013, reaching a climax last week as the energy reform bill was debated and passed by both houses. The final legislation, which goes beyond the president’s original proposal, aims to open the country’s energy sector, breaking the monopoly of state-owned oil company Pemex and electric utility CFE, and allowing private participation in the exploration and production of the nation’s vast oil and gas reserves. Panelists will discuss the implications of the legislation for private investment, the energy sector and Mexico’s economy, as well as what remains to be done before these changes can take place. Their opening remarks will be followed by an interactive Q&A session online.
