Second Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas “Reforms that promote investment and sustainability in the energy sector”
What: ECPA Second Ministerial Meeting
When: May, 25-26, 2015
Where: Merida, Yucatan-Mexico
Since its inception in 2009, the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) has worked on diverse projects to increase energy security, promote low-carbon growth and foster regional integration to realize social and sustainable development for the Americas. Several initiatives have been implemented around ECPA’s seven fundamental pillars, advancing this voluntary and flexible intraregional cooperation mechanism, gaining substantial recognition across the Western hemisphere.
Consultations were conducted in 2014 through ECPA’s National Focal Points. During this preparatory process, OAS Member states showed enthusiasm and willingness to undertake new endeavors under the actual technological, political and regulatory contexts, to achieve a more diversified and sustainable energy mix.
Followed by the ECPA ministerial meeting, Mexico will host the Sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6) on May 27 and 28. These joint events will provide a unique opportunity to further CEM and ECPA’s missions, since both initiatives seek to encourage the development of clean energy policies and technologies amongst their members.
