Natural Gas as a Driver of Resilience and Energy Diversity
Many countries in the Americas are turning to natural gas as a new source of energy. Combined with renewables, natural gas plays a critical role for the diversification, resilience, and sustainability of the energy sector and has a positive effect on economic recovery and development. This session will analyze the flexibility and reliability of natural gas as a fuel source and the benefits of pairing it with the increasing deployment of variable renewable energy as well as the complementarity with hydropower in regions effected by El Niño or La Niña, as a cleaner, more affordable substitute for coal and heavy fuel oil.
