Background:
The Closed Looped Cycle Production in the Americas (CLCPA) Program is an initiative launched in 2009 by the Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS), which aims to introduce and showcase the viability and applicability of Closed Looped Cycle design and manufacturing methodologies inspired by the Cradle-to-Cradle® design principles in the production sector throughout the Americas to facilitate the transition toward Circular Economies.
The concept of Circular Economy provides an alternative pathway to the present “take-make-waste” economic model, by decoupling growth from the use of natural resources and ecosystems. Circular Economy is very compatible with Sustainable Development principles and could bring added value to intergovernmental negotiations processes for the development of the post-2015 Development Agenda both under the Inter-American Council for Integral Development and the United Nations Framework.
The CLCPA program aims to rationalize the use of materials and natural resources by providing assistance in the development of industrial processes that mimic the regenerative capacity of nature that is restorative by intention; aims to rely on renewable energy and achieve water stewardship; with particular focus on the careful and intelligent design of products and services to allow to minimize, track, and gradually eliminate the use of toxic chemicals and materials, and eradicate the concept of waste.
The OAS has invited leading experts in the field of Circular Economy and together with strategic international partners is gearing up to continue to provide technical assistance through its Department of Sustainable Development to contextualize and provide tailored assistance to facilitate the transition toward Circular Economies in line with needs and priorities of its Member States. You will have the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas with leading experts in the field of Circular Economy.
Looking forward to meeting you at this inspiring event!
