The Fifth Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) Ministerial Meeting was held virtually and in-person in Panama City, Panama, on February 10 and 11, 2022.
Panama’s leadership under the ECPA umbrella was consistent with its commitment to promote just and inclusive energy transitions⎯the theme the Central American nation chose for the gathering.
The ministers meeting aimed to advance the region’s energy transition agenda and foster shared energy leadership, cooperation and integration across the Americas to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
In addition to guiding future activities to be carried out by ECPA, the event intended to inform prospective energy-related discussions of heads of state at the IX Summit of Americas to convene in Los Angeles in June.
Through government, technical, or private sector deliberations, the event provided a forum where countries could reach out to each other, to businesses and to civil society, building synergies, discussing common interests, and establishing partnerships. Also, key partners shared information on concrete activities implemented to address the region’s need to decarbonize energy sector, accelerate net-zero energy transitions, and meet critical climate targets.
