The Government of Ecuador and the OAS hosted a ceremony to award the first “Cradle-to-Cradle” (C2C) certification in Latin America. The event took place on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Radisson hotel in Quito. The C2C certification is the result of the work conducted by the Closed Looped Cycle Production in the Americas Initiative (CLCP in the Americas).

The recipient of the award, Batery Alimentos, implemented a pilot project for improving the packaging of one of its products to make it more sustainable. This unique example of innovation in a production cycle sets an example for competitiveness and sustainability for a product that is both profitable and eco-friendly. The OAS is looking forward to implement an initiative to replicate this successful experience in other countries of the Americas.
