Regional Policy Dialogue: Energy Network

Date: 28 Nov 2012 to 29 Nov 2012

Time: 8:15 AM

Location: Miami, United States

The Inter-American Development Bank is hosting its second annual Regional Policy Dialogue: Energy Network, to be held on November 28th and 29th in Miami, United States of America.

The Regional Policy Dialogue’s objectives are to promote the exchange of knowledge and lessons learned; as well as foster collaboration between countries to address common challenges in the field of energy.

This year the Energy Network’s meeting will focus on Energy Security. The basic premise is that energy supply is paramount to development and growth. While expectations for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are of continued growth, realizing the potential will take effort and determination. Although development of energy resources in the region has increased, growth is undermined by a lack of sufficient and reliable infrastructure and in many cases, adequate regulatory framework. For nations without energy resources, dependency on expensive imports that for the most part contribute to environmental degradation, challenge policy makers to find technical and financially viable solutions. These are issues of concern for all and a frank discussion is bound to bring new ideas to the table.

Mark Lambrides, Chief of the Energy and Climate Change Division for the Organization of American States will be participating as a moderator for the Energy Network: Energy Security in Latin America and the Caribbean session. During this session energy vice ministers and directors from ten Latin American countries will be discussing the paths to increase energy security in the hemisphere. Participants will be focus on diverse tools to increase security including development of indigenous resources, uses of renewable energies, energy efficiency and interconnection.
