“Global Innovation in Development and Housing” – APA National Planning Conference

This session provided information on APA’s involvement in the ECPA initiative as well as updates on our specific ECPA projects. The session consisted of a three person panel. The first panelist, Ana Marie Argilagos Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of the Office for International and Philanthropic Innovation (IPI) at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development gave an overview of the ECPA Initiative. Next, Chelina Odburt, co-founder of Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) provided an update on her organization’s work in Kenya, Haiti and the United States. KDI was a finalist in the Ashoka Changemakers Sustainable and Inclusive Housing Competition that was sponsored by APA, HUD and the Department of State. This was a wonderful opportunity to hear about KDI’s activities since the competition concluded over the summer. The third panelist was Thomas Bassett of APA, who provided an overview of APA’s involvement in the ECPA initiative, as well as our recently awarded ECPA grant, the Sustainable and Inclusive Housing and Community Development. APA’s ECPA team was excited to have the opportunity to share and discuss out international projects in Latin America and the Caribbean with our members as well as other interested conference participants.
