Managed by the Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States and its partners, the Closed Loop Cycle Production (CLCP) in the Americas program is promoting an innovative low emission development strategy which aims to spur sustainable development through introduction of sustainable production methods. It is anticipated that the application of these methods would jumpstart closed loop cycle sustainable manufacturing industries and systems able to deliver high-quality, environmentally-friendly products to customers. The goal of this development is to incentivize closed loop cycle consumption patterns and encourage the transition toward circular economies that are inherently more resilient to natural and anthropogenic climate shocks.

The CLCP not only seeks to rationalize the use of sustainable materials and resources—it also involves a fundamental focus on products and services inspired by the Cradle-to-Cradle® Design Principles. These principles are the result of decades of experience, capacity, and instruments developed under the framework of sustainable production and consumption including life cycle analysis, sustainable materials management, cleaner production, and eco-efficient resource management, among other methods that help enterprises, particularly SMEs, become more productive, competitive, and sustainable.

Ms. Barbara Oliveira, Chair of the Climate Resilience Integration to LEDS Working Group (CR LEDS WG) will be hosting participants and moderating the session (general introduction, 5 min.)

This webinar session will feature the following distinguished panelists:

• Ms. Eileen Naples, Program Analyst, Sustainable Materials Management Program, Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)
  • Subject: Changing the way we think about our resources and how their proper management conserves resources, reduces waste, slows climate change, and minimizes the environmental impacts of the materials we use (10 min.)
• Mr. Howie Fendley, Director of Business Development, McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC)
  • Subject: C2C framework and principles and how this facilitates the transition toward a circular economy (10 min.)
• Mr. Kevin de Cuba, Program Manager, CLCP in the Americas program (2010 – ongoing), Department of Sustainable Development, Organization of American States (DSD/OAS)
  • Subject: Why the transition to a circular economy results in more resilience to natural and anthropogenic climate shocks (10 min.)
