President Juan Manuel Santos begins his second term with questions swirling around Colombia’s energy outlook. In the decade since overhauling its energy sector, the country has attracted significant interest and investment. Oil production has doubled and exploration has boomed. Despite the effects of extreme weather on its hydropower capacity, increased natural gas supplies as well as coal-fired generation have afforded some cushion for the country’s electric sector. But the positive results have only heightened expectations which have exposed stress points across the country’s energy value chain. Environmental and community issues have risen to the top of the agenda, while the cost of energy remains a concern.
This executive roundtable is timed to coincide with the beginning of the second Santos term in Colombia. Panelists from government, industry and civil society will share insights on:
- Approaches to striking a balance between community relations, environmental protection and fostering the economic contribution of the energy industry.
- Oil and natural gas production and reserves challenges, permitting processes, and updates on Ronda Colombia 2014.
- Dealing with extreme weather and the outlook for the electric sector.
- The role for natural gas, regulatory and market changes, and the outlook for natural gas production and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
- New regulations for unconventional resources and deepwater E&P, environmental questions, and the role of the state and communities
