Climate Change Expert, Dr. Ana Barros to Visit Bolivia on Behalf of ECPA Senior Fellows

Washington, D.C., October 12, 2012 – Ana P. Barros, a Senior Fellow in the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), will be traveling from October 15, 2012 through October 20th, 2012 to La Paz, Bolivia, to participate in meetings and events regarding the IMPORTANCE OF DATA AND INFORMATION IN DECISION-MAKING RELATED TO CLIMATE CHANGE. Barros is a Professor of Engineering at Duke University who specializes in Adaptation.
Dr. Barros has focused her research on environmental physics and engineering, and optimal management of natural resources and their supporting landscapes. Her research includes atmospheric physics and chemistry, hydrology and environmental fluid dynamics using models and observations; coupled physics-economics-governance models for assessing impacts developing adaptive response strategies of land-use, land-cover and population change; and satellite-based remote sensing for macro-scale monitoring of the natural environment. Dr. Barros has been active in developing operational forecasting models and Big Data technologies for early warning of natural hazards in remote regions.

During her visit to Bolivia, Dr. Barros will hold meetings with Eco/Pol; with the Laboratorio de Física de la Atmósfera at the Universidad Mayor de San Andres; with the National Department of Water Resources and Irrigation; she will hold technical discussion with World Bank staff, and the Inter-American Development Bank staff, She will meet with other groups such as the Glaciers Group and the Water Resources and Agriculture Group,a dn USAID to present on “Climate Change Data in Bolivia”. Dr. Barros will present academic lectures on the “IMPORTANCE OF DATA AND INFORMATION IN DECISION-MAKING RELATED TO CLIMATE CHANGE” at the Universidad Católica; and her stay will include a field trip to visit various projects—UMSA Laboratory, Zongo Glacier, and a Hydropower plant and to the Tuni Condoriri Dam.
