Workshop on Work Area 2 – Promoting long-term transactions

Date and Time: December 13-14, 2012
Location: Hotel Clarion – Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Objetive: The aim of the workshop is to create a conducive environment for the development of beneficial conversations that can lead towards the creation of strategies needed to attract long term regional electrical investment, especially with reagards to local energy sources, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Description: The workshop will explore the use of policies that promote long-term transactions, which are more likely to occur if managers understand the many benefits and costs, investments and other requirements, including:

1. The benefits of the integration of electricity markets
2. Economic mix of generation, transmission, demand management and energy efficiency
3. Lower costs of power supply, with less price volatility, due to transactions that cross borders
4. Keep currencies in Central America, instead of exporting them to the oil producing countries
5. Low price volatility
6. Less dependence on fossil fuels and imported fuels
7. improved reliability
8. Best environmental treatment
9. Predictable planning process that attracts investors
10. Institutions for planning and decision making that focus on the benefits, minimize costs and show cooperation and trust
11. Top diplomatic relations

The purpose is to encourage relationships, procedures and resources to the parties concerned in the region to work well together, and in particular to ensure consistency between the needs of the region in the long term and needs of each country in the short term.
