Washington D.C., August 20, 2015. The Organization of American States and the Department of Energy of the United States of America signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster information exchange and collaboration to educate future generations regarding the principles of sustainable energy and energy efficiency practices.
Honorable Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General of the OAS and Honorable LaDoris Harris, Director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity at the Department of Energy and leader of the Minorities of Energy Initiative signed the MOU to provide a sound foundation that advocate for a literacy-based approach to the teaching of energy and climate.
“Energy is a priority of President Obama’s agenda, especially on the matter of addressing the needs of minorities and underrepresented communities in the energy sector,” said Hon. Harris. “This is just the beginning; we look forward to a growing collaboration with the OAS in this endeavor.”
In his remarks, Assistant Secretary-General noted, “the OAS and several governments in the region have made it a priority to educate future generation regarding the principles of sustainable energy and energy efficiency practices.” “The OAS is pleased to support the efforts of the Government of the United States to increase energy and climate literacy among educators of all disciplines and among all age groups in OAS Member States institutions and educational systems.”
