During this day, experts from the region on energy issues meet in Costa Rica for the Second Regional Preparatory Meeting for the IV Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) which will take place in 2020 in Montego Bay.

The main objective of this second meeting is to promote a discussion focused on the priorities identified in the First Regional Preparatory Meeting held in November 2018 in Miami. On this occasion, the work agenda is aimed at developing a regional approach to issues of common interest in the field of energy, and forge collaborative actions under the ECPA umbrella, thus crystalizing the objectives of Ministerial meeting.

During the working session, participants aim to identify recommendations and/or proposals for joint cooperation between countries with common interests to be consider during the next ECPA Ministerial meeting, whose main theme is “Energy Resilience and Investment Opportunities”.

As part of the dynamics, work teams will be set up to analyze topics related to: Energy efficiency, Electric mobility, Natural gas and Bioenergy, as well as cross-cutting aspects related to resilience, financing and participation of the private sector.

Representatives from 20 countries of the Western Hemisphere (OAS member states) attend this meeting, which was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) through the Secretariat of Planning of the Energy Subsector (SEPSE) and the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS, in its capacity as the Technical Coordination Unit of ECPA.

For the Vice Minister of Energy, Rolando Castro Cordoba, this type of regional meetings are spaces that allow the exchange of information on key energy issues that are of common interest, as well as offering the opportunity to create synergies among the different countries with a view to consolidating a modern, integrated and resilient energy infrastructure in the region.

The Director of the Department of Sustainable Development, Mr. Cletus Springer and the Chief of the Energy Unit, Mr. Juan Cruz Monticelli represent the OAS during this event.
