Wednesday, March 19, 2014

In the framework of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, the Regional Office of Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) has joined the partners that are supporting the Latin American and Caribbean “Schools for a Sustainable Future” rally, organized by the Vive con Esperanza Foundation. Entries are free and the deadline was extended to as late as April 7, 2014.

The rally is a competition for public and private schools and seeks to involve children and adolescents in the process of local sustainable development as change agents in their communities. All schools in Latin America and the Caribbean can compete with innovative and creative projects that promote sustainability.

OREALC/UNESCO Santiago will be part of the jury that will select the most innovative environmental projects, including those that promote science and technology for sustainable development, as well as those that are aimed at strengthening their local community. The most important initiatives will be presented in the context of Latin American and Caribbean leaders in Education, Science and Technology for Sustainability, which will take place on November 10, 2014.

There will be one winner of “Live with Hope Award: Innovation for Sustainability” for each of the categories, and they will represent Latin America in the 2015 International Green Award in the UK. Also, international recognition will be given to the five best proposals in each category.
