Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) and the Green Growth Knowledge Platform Announce Mutual Collaboration

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Washington, DC July 3, 2013 – The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) have recently formalized a partnership to extend knowledge generation, sharing of best practices and support communications and outreach activities with all OAS Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) networks and clearinghouse mechanisms, including ECPA a hemispheric, flexible mechanism for advancing energy security and promoting clean energy. ECPA is comprised of a technical coordination unit called Clearinghouse. Led by the OAS/DSD, the ECPA Clearinghouse fosters a favorable environment for the development of country-lead projects, supports initiatives that expand renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in the region, and enables energy and climate stakeholders to share and exchange ideas.

The DSD,
OAS’ Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) technical arm on sustainable development issues, is responsible for coordinating extensive regional networks such as the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the Pathways to prosperity, among other clearinghouses. The GGKP, an initiative founded by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank (WB), seeks to enhance and expand efforts to identify and address major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice, while helping countries design and implement policies to move towards a green economy.

This strategic collaboration between the ECPA and the GGKP will pursue to foster hemispheric economic growth, social development and further develop means for sharing and exchanging green growth theory and practice information. Hence, it is expected for this cooperation to be mutually beneficial, and undoubtedly instrumental for fostering a green growth community along the region, as well as a valuable means for tackling climate change adverse impacts and for promoting clean energy.
