SUMMARY:World Oceans Day
DESCRIPTION:\nThursday, June 6, 2013\nWorld Oceans Day\n\n\n\n\n\nOn World Oceans Day people around the planet celebrate and honor the body of water which links us all, for what it provides humans and what it represents. Be a part of this growing global celebration! Thanks to The Ocean Project and The World Ocean Network for helping to promote and coordinate this event since 2002.\n\nHow can I get involved?\nIt’s fun and easy!\n\nCheck out the list of event ideas\nPlan your event and submit it to the event listings.\nOr find a planned event you like and attend!\nSpread the word about ocean conservation by “Wearing Blue and Telling Two.”\nSign up to join the World Oceans Day mailing list!\n\nWhy Should I Celebrate Worlds Oceans Day?\nThe world’s ocean:\n\nGenerates most of the oxygen we breathe\nHelps feed us\nRegulates our climate\nCleans the water we drink\nOffers us a pharmacopoeia of potential medicines\nProvides limitless inspiration!\n\n\nNow we can give back. \n\nTake part in World Oceans Day events and activities this year and help protect our ocean for the future!\nIt’s up to each one of us to help ensure that our ocean is protected and conserved for future generations. World Oceans Day allows us to:\n\nChange perspective – encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them and what it has to offer all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations.\nLearn – discover the wealth of diverse and beautiful ocean creatures and habitats, how our daily actions affect them, and how we are all interconnected.\nChange our ways – we are all linked to, and through, the ocean! By taking care of your backyard, you are acting as a caretaker of our ocean. Making small modifications to your everyday habits will greatly benefit our blue planet.\nCelebrate – whether you live inland or on the coast we are all connected to the ocean; take the time to think about how the ocean affects you, and how you affect the ocean, and then organize or participate in activities that celebrate our world ocean.\n\n\nWhy World Oceans Day? \n\nThe Ocean Project recognizes that there is one world ocean that connects us all. (One need only look at an image from space to see that our planet should have been named “Ocean” rather than “Earth.”) Through 2008, we promoted “World Ocean Day” but added the “s” in 2009 after the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution officially recognizing June 8th as World Oceans Day each year. We hope that the UN will eventually embrace the singular “Ocean” but in the meantime, we are following the UN-designated use of World Oceans Day to show solidarity for the conservation of this important resource that connects us all.\nFor more information, visit: http://worldoceansday.org/About\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPosted By: N/A – Tuesday, 07 May, 2013 at 12:00 AM\n\n
