DESCRIPTION:\nMonday, June 8, 2015 – Friday, June 26, 2015\n[Virtual Forum]: Advancing towards Sustainable Development in the Americas\nVirtual Forum with Civil Society and Social Actors\n8-26, June 2015\nJOIN THE CONVERSATION\nThe General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) through its Department of Sustainable Development and the Summit of the Americas Secretariat, in cooperation with the Government of Honduras have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the Virtual Consultation Forum with Civil Society and Social Actors. The Forum is being organized as part of the revision and update of the Inter-American Program on Sustainable Development (PIDS) and the preparatory process of the Third Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development to take place from October 22 to 23, 2015 in Honduras, for the adoption of the PIDS.\nThe PIDS establishes the OAS’ priorities and policy guidelines on sustainable development and environment.\nThe objectives of this Virtual Forum are:\n\nTo obtain input from civil society and social actors for the revision and update of the PIDS.\nBuild consensus among representatives of civil society and social actors and obtain their recommendations on the priorities that should be included in the PIDS and analyzed during the Ministerial Meeting.\nBenefit from best practices efforts of civil society and social actors on the themes to be analyzed during the Ministerial Meeting.\n\nThe recommendations obtained during this Virtual Forum will be compiled in a document that will be submitted to the Inter-American Committee on Sustainable Development (CIDS), composed by experts and authorities of OAS Member States and responsible to promote the development and implementation of the PIDS. Thus, your contribution to this Virtual Forum is crucial to the work performed by the CIDS and for the discussion by the Ministers and the approval of the PIDS during the Ministerial Meeting in Honduras.\nWe invite you to share your ideas and experiences from June 8 until June 26, 2015 to help the OAS and the governments of the Americas strengthen the work we do to support sustainable development in the Americas.\nIn addition, background documents will be available to participants prior to the Meeting. Participants will be able to submit comments or questions in English or Spanish. The moderators will answer your questions in the language that the comments or questions were submitted. Participants will also be able to respond to comments or questions from other participants in English or Spanish.\nWe hope that this Forum will help strengthen the link between governments, international organizations, civil society and social actors, and will also serve as part of the follow-up activities of the Seventh Summit of the Americas that took place in April 2015.
