Low Carbon Communities of the Americas (LCCA): Costa Rican Energy Efficiency Training Center
The U.S. Department of Energy launched the Low Carbon Communities of the Americas (LCCA) program at the June 2009 Energy and Climate Symposium of the Americas in Lima, Peru. DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) called for proposals from the nations of the Americas for technical assistance and collaborative work with DOE and its national labs on sustainable energy market transformation projects.
Costa Rican Energy Efficiency Training Center
The government of Costa Rica, along with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), has announced an Energy Efficiency Center in Costa Rica that will train and certify professionals in energy efficient technology and auditing procedures, and also help expand the technical knowledge and capabilities of the Central American region on efficiency services and programs. Upon the completion of their training, the certified auditors will be able to:
Conduct comprehensive energy diagnostics to evaluate facilities, identify the opportunities to maximize energy savings, and help craft detailed solutions;
Organize, implement and monitor businesses’ management of energy savings to reduce related costs and increase their competitiveness in the marketplace; and
Execute Total Energy Efficiency Technology Management in industrial businesses.
Additionally, the Center will aim to measure and evaluate how the auditors’ work translates into a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
