The workshop Improving Production and Use of Agricultural Biomass for Renewable Energy in the Americas will inaugurate a new program for regional partners to exchange information and promote collaboration on renewable energy, including advanced biofuels, from agricultural biomass. This new program will be administered by the United States Department of Agriculture with support from the United States Department of State.

The Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) is a voluntary and flexible framework open to all Western Hemisphere governments, private sector, and civil society to lead or participate in initiatives that reflect the region’s energy and climate priorities. In furtherance of this important Partnership, the Government of Panama will host a regional critical issues discussion and ECPA senior-level meeting on April 7-8, 2011 in Panama City. This high-level discussion and meeting provides a critical occasion and opportunity for public, private, financial and non-governmental sectors to further engage in an open dialogue to address energy development in the Western Hemisphere.

This event of the International Center for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CIEMADeS) will use a multi-disciplinary approach to describe and analyze the environmental and economic viability of the electrical interconnection of the Caribbean power systems and discuss its technical, environmental and economic aspects. In addition, the Conference will promote in-depth knowledge of the archipelago’s potential for energy source diversification and will foster the establishment of partnerships for further bilateral and multi-lateral technical and scientific collaboration amongst governments and institutions interested in the sustainable development of the Region.
